I started making candles when I was around 10 years old. My first candle I remember making was a “swiss cheese” candle. Where you pour wax in a mold with water. Interesting, but not very practical.
I began collecting unusual candles and candle holders in my teens. I still have a very unique pyramid candle I have carted around for over 40 years through all my moves and some holders you can’t buy any longer. I frequent estate sales always on the look out for those really unique candle holders.
By my late 30’s my kids were older and I had more time. i began making candles in earnest. I began collecting molds and by my 40’s I began selling my candles. I have had to stop selling many times when my family needed me or work jut took over. But I have never given up on my love of creating unique candles.
I hope you enjoy seeing examples of what I have made over the years. One of the items I have made that I am most proud of is my Hurricane Lanterns or Luminaries as some people call them. I have a method for embedding cotton material into wax creating a lantern. The lantern itself never burns and they last for years. Some of mine I have had and used in my house for over 15 years.
You can see a quick video of some of my hurricane lanterns below. Then visit my hurricane material list page to see all the patterns available.
They look so cool!
